Intrepid sea air & space museum

Traveling

by Brian — Posted on September 2, 2016

We reached a museum called Intrepid sea air & space museum. There was this submarine that used to be part of the US army. It was very huge. We were allowed to go inside it. There were 2 huge missiles inside the submarine. The crew had to stay inside the huge submarine underwater for 2 whole months when they were at mission! Without seeing the sun! Without WiFi! I wouldn't be able to live in the submarine for a second! Every room was small! How could they even operate in that small area? At least the cook in the crew was a good chef. :) There were so many sections, like the command center, dinning rooms and sleeping areas.

Here are some pictures inside the submarine.

The missile was very huge. The missile was the green cylinder at the bottom picture.

Soon, we exited the huge submarine. We went to the magnificent air carrier. We climbed up the stairs to the first floor and saw some huge planes inside it. They were all used in WW2. They looked stylish and phenomenal. There were breathtaking types of planes that could add gas to itself in the air without landing.

During WW2, there were Ejector suits for ejecting out the pilot if the plane got destroyed.

After that, we went to this plane simulation section where you had to try using the control of a plane on a screen. It was difficult to control for a green hand!

Then we went inside this real plane simulator and used the plane controls. It turned out that the direction moved with the controller. Sadly, I didn't feel comfortable when we turned around upside down. Finally, we stopped.

Soon we went upstairs to the top level.

It was on the top of the ship! The command center for the ship was on display, so we went there. Like the submarine, it used a compass for directions instead of a computer and GPS at that time.

Afterwards, we went to the space ship part. It had the NASA spaceship, Enterprise. It was astonishing. I learned that the black and white materials bordering the outside layer protected the spaceship from burning up in the atmosphere.

Finally, we went to the air carrier. There were many planes on the air carrier. It had one plane that couldn't be detected by radars, one that went 3x the speed of sound (Mach 3), and much more unbelievable planes.

We had visited the submarine, air carrier and spaceship. We had studied everything in details inside intrepid.
